Social Network Analysis

Category:Uncategorized

Social networks are becoming increasingly critical to understanding business performance.  On my web site, I posted an entry almost three years ago mentioning a variety of books on social network analysis and their relevance to business. I just came across a good bibliography by Patti Anklam and Bruce Hoppe that covers a broader range of resources that others might find useful in understanding social network analysis. Bruce Hoppe’s Connectedness blog (where the bibliography was posted) is a good way to keep current on some of the developments in this field.

I believe John started this analysis with his earlier book “Net Gain” (the book was idealistic towards the costs of growing user communities, assuming linear scaling costs). We used this book successfully to pitch with Venture Capitalists in Germany for an online music community.
Bruce Eckel’s (Thinking in Java) weblog has a new article on scalable Info-Communities. Good article: http://www.artima.com/weblogs/viewpost.jsp?thread=113330
The problem is that these wicked transaction costs (Eckel mentions “Enthropy”) bog down the returns of decentral organization.
So, how can small scale?

CENTER FOR GROWTH

My latest project is The Center for Growth.

We help leaders and their teams move beyond fear-based inertia to opportunity-driven action and offer individuals the same journey toward growing impact.

The Center uses ideas from my latest book, The Journey Beyond Fear, starting with the observation that fear is becoming the dominant emotion for people around the world.
